The new iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak tool will be called Absinthe 2.0

After Pod2g confirmation about founding the required exploits to do Untethered Jailbreak for iDevices running the latest iOS “iOS 5.1.1” and he successfully untethered jailbroke his iPhone 4 and iPad. Then he tested the jailbreak on almost all iDevices, he posted a list of jailbreakable devices.

Couple of days ago Pod2g made another announcement, he said the jailbreak will be released within few days, and the Chronic Dev-Team will release the jailbreak tool.
We knew that the new iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak tool will likely be called Absinthe 2.0 and expected to be released to public within few days.
iOS Hacker @xvolks, one of the jailbreak testers, on Twitter said:
I have my new bootrom 3gs jailbroken untethered on iOS 5.1.1 thanks to the new Absinthe v2.0-rc1. I’m currently testing with iPhone4…
Shortly after confirming the name of the upcoming iOS 5.1.1jailbreak tool, xvolks uploaded a video of an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1. Jailbroken with the new Absinthe tool and Pod2g’s exploits.

I’ve tested Absinthe v2 on my iPhone 4 GSM, iOS 5.1.1. It jailbroke it flawlessly. I’ve took a (bad) video of it ;)
Folks at iDB analyzed Xvolks’s video and posted a very useful post of what we’ve learnt from the Absinthe 2.0 video
Here is what we’ve found so far…
  • Looks-wise, the tool is nearly identical to the original Absinthe tool that was released back in January for the 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak.
  • Like the original Absinthe, no DFU mode is required or any other manual intervention. All you do is connect your eligible iOS 5.1.1 device, click jailbreak, and let it work.
  • The jailbreak should be fully completed within 5 minutes or so (at least on A4 devices).
  • There doesn’t appear to be a need to mess with any VPN settings from what we can discern from the video footage, though this could change.
  • Cydia is immediately installed after the jailbreak is complete.
  • Unlike the original Absinthe, which only worked for the iPad 2 or the iPhone 4S, Absinthe 2.0 appears to work with all eligible A4 and A5 devices.
Other points of note:
  • A Mac version was shown on video, and just like the original Absinthe release, a Mac version will probably be released first. Windows should shortly follow, and then perhaps a Linux version.
  • There’s no word yet on a Command Line Interface release. During the original Absinthe release in January, the iPhone Dev Team was responsible for the CLI version of the Corona exploit. It’ll be interesting to see if the same pattern is repeated this time around. (see below for updates on this)
  • Still no word on whether or not you will be able to perform a tethered jailbreak on eligible A4 devices, and install a package like you could previously with Corona for a full blown untethered jailbreak.
Also MuscleNerd confirmed that A CLI version of the 5.1.1 jailbreak will be released, and the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak will be incorporated directly into RedSn0w as an all inclusive package.
