iPhone 4S Review

iPhone 4S review is finally here. Many bloggers, who got the iPhone 4S earlier than expected, has fully reviewed the handset. The 2011 iPhone 4S finally gets a real & full review. Although Apple didn’t release the iPhone 5 and instead it surprised us with the iPhone 4S, everyone now is looking forward to buying the device thanks to how awesome it is.
While taking a look at the reviews, you may feel like it’s an iPhone 4 review but in fact it’s not. The iPhone 4S is totally different from the iPhone 4 except for the design.
Difference between the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 is concerned on the dual-core A5 processor, much better camera, an improved antenna design, and that the iPhone 4S works on both CDMA and GSM networks. Oh, and the most important one: Siri!
As everyone knows, the iPhone 4S comes with iOS 5 which is scheduled to be released by tomorrow’s afternoon. Joshua Topolsky explains:
The new operating system is loaded with big improvements, from notifications to how your device connects to your computer. Packed with major features like iCloud integration and an innovative, voice-activated “intelligent assistant” named Siri, it’s not unfair to consider this one of the most meaningful updates to iOS we’ve ever seen.
The external design of the iPhone 4S is very similar to the iPhone 4 design except for that antenna. That’s why your old iPhone 4 case won’t fit your new iPhone 4S.
Inside the iPhone 4S.. it’s totally different. The iPhone 4S comes with the dual-core A5 CPU that super fast one we saw in the iPad 2 and it’s already clocked at 800MHz, according to reports earlier today. The iPhone 4S has only 512MB of RAM (the same as iPad 2 and iPhone 4). The handset has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and the new Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
The iPhone 4S comes with an 8 megapixel sensor, improved optics and capability of handling 1080p video. The front one is the same as the iPhone 4.
The reviewer has a notice about the iPhone 4S display:
One thing I did note, however, was how much less contrast-heavy the screen looks in comparison to the previous model. The iPhone 4S has a noticeably different color tone, and blacks seem far less dark. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; when comparing Dead Space (a pretty dark game) side-by-side, I found the iPhone 4S display more eye-pleasing. Still, the newer screen definitely has a slightly more green-tinted, washed out look compared with the older device.
The iPhone 4 is claimed to take the nicest and cleanest photos ever seen from a mobile device. You can ready more about the camera improvements and see more photos from ThisIsMyNext.
For battery life, it looks like the iPhone 4S’ battery shows great performance. The battery was able to be used heavily for about 16 hours of making calls, browsing, downloading apps, syncing, listening to music, game playing, and more without getting to the battery empty status.
About Siri, we’ve seen so much today about that feature. There’s nothing to be said except it’s incredible and awesome. Most of iPhone 4S buyers are getting it for Siri. This feature will answer you when you say “I love you”, “What does the life mean?” and many other strange things can be found here.
Here’s a small video review:
Of course, you’ll need to read the in-detail review of the iPhone 4S over at ThisIsMyNext. Let us know what do you think.
We prefer Joshua Topolsky’s review, however, we have to show you some more reviewers’ opinions:
Speech recognition. Crazy good, transformative, category-redefining speech recognition.
Apple won’t admit that it’s using a version of Dragon Dictation, the free iPhone app, but there doesn’t seem to be much doubt; it works and behaves identically. (For example, it occasionally seems to process your utterance but then types nothing at all, just as the Dragon app does.) This version is infinitely better, though, because it’s a built-in keyboard button, not a separate app.
Leading up to last week’s event, like everyone else, I kept reading the rumors about a new iPhone with a larger screen and completely different form factor. Quite frankly, I was hoping they were wrong. (For the record, I stated that I heard the screen size rumor was wrong weeks ago.) The iPhone 4′s design is the pinnacle of smartphone design in my opinion. I simply could not imagine how they could alter it to make it better. Even making it thinner would mean that it wouldn’t fit as nicely in your hands for taking pictures. Android fanboys are going to love that statement.
One thing I particularly noticed was the animations when launching and switching apps. When an app is launched or closed, it is supposed to zoom in or out — this wasn’t always evident in previous versions of the iPhone.
The iPhone 4 would sometimes show animations, but a lot of the time, an app would just appear.
The increased performance of the iPhone 4S is great news for developers. They have been pushing the envelope of Apple’s hardware, releasing more complex, graphics intensive apps that require this power.
The system understands multiple, colloquial forms of a question. I asked, “Will the weather get worse today?” and Siri answered, “I don’t think the weather is going to get worse” and displayed a weather chart. You can check stock prices, addresses, map directions and much more. It also answers in a friendly fashion, saying things like “Coming right up” or “I’m not sure what you said, Walt.” And it has some cute answers built in. When I asked it “What’s the best phone?” it said, “Wait… there are other phones?”
